Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst began his career in public service as an officer in the U.S. Air Force during the mid-1970s. In the mid-1980s he began his business career as a developer in the electric cogeneration business, which earned him a solid reputation as an innovative and successful businessman.
From 1998 to 2002, He served as Texas Land Commissioner where his leadership was uniquely successful by reducing the workforce and budget, and turning back money each of two biennium to Texas' taxpayers.
Lt. Gov. Dewhurst won his re-election by leading the Texas Senate with a pro-growth, pro-family agenda, and on the strength of his plan to put Texas Children First.
He has been a long time community and civic leader here in his hometown of Houston. He also breeds and raises registered Black Angus cattle, and he rides cutting horses in National Cutting Horse and American Quarter Horse competitions.
Lt. Gov. Dewhurst has been called a leader with "a demonstration of steadiness, resolve and consensus building," by the Dallas Morning News, and the Houston Chronicle called him "an exceptional leader."
He is a believer in creating an environment of economic growth throughout the state – a believer that our children deserve the best education they can possibly receive, he believes in having the best security possible for our country and he believes that our environment is an important issue that affects our quality of life.
Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst, president of the Texas Senate, is a man of conviction, a man of confidence and a man who believes that within every Texan lies a dream – a goal, which can be accomplished.
In his own words, Mr. Dewhurst said, “I see Texas as the place of big dreams and quiet miracles. A place where everyday, anybody, from any background or any community, can scale heights as improbable as they are breathtaking.”
Ladies and gentlemen, I present Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst.
